STGT '07

Player: Pirate1019
Team: Team Loser

Week 1 (Konami Week): Twinbee Yahhoo!

Ranking: 83 (of 108)
Score: 1'431'880
Stage: 4
Version: MAME

Comments: In hindsight, I shouldn't have used autofire. It was allowed, but it made juggling the bells more difficult then it had to be.

Week 2 (Seibu Kaihatsu Week): Viper Phase 1

Ranking: 72 (of 93)
Score: 1'412'369
Stage: 3
Version: MAME

Comments: This game has the most atrocious scoring system. Killing every single enemy netted you a 100% increase in score. Killing 99% of the enemies got you a shitty 50% score increase. Stage one sucked. Along with the rest of the game.

Week 3 ('06 Second Place Week): Darius Gaiden

Ranking: 78 (of 88+lol)
Score: 2'008'570
Route: ABDG
Version: MAME

Comments: Despite autofire ruining the games framrate and difficulty, I still couldn't manage to beat more then 4 stages. Granted I got really busy with school and hardly got to play, but I still think I should have done better then this.

Week 4 (Hidden Gem Week): Omega Fighter Special Rom Special Mode

Ranking: 73 (of 77)
Score: 1'564'720
Stage: 1-3
Version: MAME

Comments: Still busy with school. Played it twice and threw up a disposable score.

Week 5 (Famous Manic Week): Giga Wing

Ranking: 56 (of 76)
Score: 2'7349'54645070
Stage: 4
Character: Ruby
Version: MAME

Comments: For the last week of the comp, I decided to finally pour some actual time (relatively) into the game since I had neglected to truly participate in the previous two weeks. I dumped about 5:30 into Giga Wing, but after about 2 hours, I stopped improving and after that the game became an excercise in frusteration.

Overall thoughts

I hope that next year I don't have things distracting me during the tournament. I had to get ready for classes at the local college during weeks 1 and 2 and for weeks 3 and 4 I was brick walled with trying to adjust to the college atmosphere and running Cross Country. When I finally got time to really play during Week 5, I stopped improving after only 2 hours of play.

I think I'll finally knuckle down and try to get better at some shooters so that next year I'll be able to compete properly, instead of simply tagging along.
